Motorcyclist killed in crash with passenger van in Provo

PROVO, Utah  — A deadly accident in Provo left a motorcyclist killed after colliding with a passenger van on University Avenue.

Police said the crash happened around 6:35 p.m. Monday, when a northbound passenger van turned left at the intersection of 1200 South and struck a motorcycle heading southbound.

The motorcyclist was rushed to Utah Valley Hospital but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Around the same time, another accident occurred on 300 South University Avenue when a vehicle struck the center island, blocking traffic.

Officers launched a DUI investigation in that crash, and the driver was transported to Utah Valley Hospital with minor injuries.

Southbound lanes of University Avenue were reduced while officials investigated both crashes. The roadway has since been cleared. The Orem Police Department assisted due to the incidents happening during peak traffic hours.
