Passenger killed, driver hospitalized in I-84 crash in Morgan County

MORGAN, Utah— A deadly accident on Interstate 84 in Morgan County left one passenger killed and the driver hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash Sunday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol officials said the crash happened around 10:30 a.m. near Morgan. According to investigators, an SUV traveling westbound veered off the roadway and struck a semi-truck trailer that was parked on the highway shoulder. The SUV then swerved back onto the road, where it was hit by a pickup truck.

Both the SUV’s driver and passenger were taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The passenger later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

First responders evaluated the occupants of the semi-truck and pickup truck at the scene; they were not hospitalized.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim killed in the accident. Officials said it remains unclear why the SUV driver left the roadway, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
