Fatal I-15 crash shuts down northbound lanes near North Temple
SALT LAKE CITY — A fatal accident on Interstate 15 forced a temporary shutdown of all northbound lanes near North Temple early Monday.
According to Lt. Cameron Roden with the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash was a rear-end collision involving a red Jeep and a black Ford.
Preliminary details show the Jeep crashed into the back of the Ford near the I-15 on-ramp from Interstate 80. The driver of the Jeep was killed in the crash. Their identity has not yet been released. The condition of the Ford driver remains unknown.
Traffic cameras captured a large emergency response, with both damaged vehicles blocking the right lanes of the freeway.

Because of the accident’s location, the I-80 eastbound on-ramp to northbound I-15 was closed, and all northbound lanes of I-15 were shut down at 600 South.
Lt. Roden confirmed the ramp from I-80 to northbound I-15 on the west side of the valley would stay closed until crews cleared the crash scene.
The closure caused major traffic delays, with backups stretching up to five miles on northbound I-15 and around a mile on westbound I-80.
Traffic was diverted onto 600 South, but by 9:00 a.m. the left three lanes, including the HOV lane, were reopened.
