Driver Dies After Rear-End Collision in Standstill Traffic in West Valley City
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — A tragic accident occurred Wednesday evening in West Valley City, resulting in the death of one driver.
According to Lt. Jason Vincent of the West Valley City Police Department, the crash happened around 7:00 p.m. on July 30. A vehicle traveling west on 3500 South entered from the center turn lane and attempted to merge into westbound traffic near 4600 West, where traffic was stopped.

The vehicle collided with the back of another car, causing a chain reaction that pushed that car into the one in front of it.
Despite wearing a seat belt and having functional airbags, the driver who initiated the collision died at the scene.
Police said all other drivers remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the investigation. Based on initial witness statements, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
